7 Tips to Balancing Family and Career at the Same Time

Create and Follow Work Rules

Creating some work-at-home ground rules for family members can help set realistic expectations for what you can and can’t do in a workday. Set boundaries around your work in order to create a sense of balance for everyone in the household.

We need to set some guidelines for ourselves especially those who are working at home to ensure that we are not working too little or too much. Another thing is to identify the most common distraction and set daily goals to deal with distractions.

Set Goals

Avoid distractions as much as possible, follow your ground rules, growing your business, spending time with family and advancing your career. And the only way to do this Is to work hard and stick to your daily schedule.

Try to break down your goals and start with your overall vision until you identify your daily goals. You can help yourself by setting reminders through your phone or with notes. Evaluate your progress.

Get Yourself Organized

It takes a lot of effort to think out and implement different ways of keeping your life organized. Find out what works for you and take your time to do this. Create routines to keep you organized both at home and at work. Having a daily routine will help you improve your time management.

Learn to Embrace Change

Expect changes as time goes by. As parents who are working at home, we must recognize that our children grow, gain new skills and have different needs. This goes the same as to our jobs. Our home businesses and jobs will not be the same year after year. So we have embrace change and look for new opportunities or go with the way through transitions at work.

Work the Right Amount

Keep your overall life or professional goals in mind as you set your schedule. There is no “right amount” of work, the important it setting your schedule and stick with it. Keep your overall life/professional goals in mind as you set your work schedule. Work smarter, you can either multitask if your good at it or aim for more effective money-making opportunities.

Continue Learning

Don’t let working at home let you lose in touch with new developments and new technology. Subscribe to professional journals or have a habit of checking news and websites related to your profession. Attending seminars and conferences to enhance your knowledge is a big help. You can join groups in social media, share ideas and help one another. For family life, neighbors and friends are a good source to learn about social and community events for yourself and your family.

Take Care of Yourself

When you work at home and having kids around you, you will have less time for yourself. It is important to give time and pamper yourself. Start exercising, crafts, getting together with friends and family to enhance relationships.

Activities such as having a spa day, daily exercise, date night with your partner or friends. Spending time with your family is likely one of the key reasons that you work at home. Make sure that you’re not multitasking too much and enjoy quality time with the people you love. These are the reasons to work from home and enjoy your family.

How to be More Productive

Personally, I am easily distracted with social media so I really need to organize things through writing it down in my journal to keep me on track. Are you experiencing that too?

Here are some things that I would like to share with you guys in order to be more organized and productive at the same time.

How To Be More Productive
1. Get rid of distractions – Honestly, we have to. In order to avoid doing simple task for hours, learn to ignore distractions. Condition yourself ahead of time and make the most out of it. Don’t make yourself popping over social media from time to time.

2. Wake up earlier – This is true, waking up early in the day makes you more productive and have more energy to start the day. In my case, I wake up one hour and thirty minutes ahead of my time since I am going to work and to also avoid rushing out.

3. Make sure to take breaks in between – Yes I am the type of person who is easily bored and tend to not focus to my task. That’s why I make sure to take breaks especially when I am writing. It is a way to get you back on track again and also relax your eyes from your computer.

4. Turn off notifications on your phone especially for social media – If you always turn on your phone notifications, the tendency is you always check your phone more often. Try to turn it off especially when you have work for you to concentrate.

5. Complete task one at a time –  I don’t know about you but for me it is better to avoid multitasking. In my case, I see to it that I do my task one at a time to finish early. There’s no need to completely overwhelm yourself unless your deadlines are tight.

What is a Virtual Assistant and Why You Need to Become One

Most of my work is in Social Media Management and Admin tasks, but there are so many options for Virtual Assistants now.

Let us first define a Virtual Assistant.

A Virtual Assistant, or VA, is an administrative professional who provides immediate professional support, services, and skills to busy entrepreneurs and business managers via the Internet.

A Virtual Assistant can work for many different types of businesses. Some specialize in Social Media, Real Estate or Website designing, Graphics and a lot more for a variety of companies.

Virtual Assistants can be hired for a long period of time or work to complete one job, it all depends on what the client is looking for. I have some clients on a set monthly package, some I bill by the hour and a few come to me for project-based jobs.

As a self employed professional, virtual assistants are able to provide administrative services for less than hiring, training and retaining an employee. This makes it very cost effective for many small to medium businesses.Starting my Virtual Assistant business helped me fulfill my dreams of quitting my job and working from home. And as a mom who works at home, this is a big help for the family.

What Is A Virtual Assistant And Why You Need One

How much does a Virtual Assistant make?

This is a tricky question to answer. This depends  on the type of work, where the VA lives and they types of clients they take on. I have seen a lot of higher rates from other countries, but here in the Philippines, we have affordable rates. Some may charge  between $25 and $40 per hour.

You can check my rates HERE for cheaper pricing.

There are VA’s who charge more if they have special training or skills that allow them to perform specialized tasks.

Also, many VAs increase their hourly rate as they gain experience and regular clients.

WHY DO PEOPLE HIRE VIRTUAL ASSISTANTS?

Entrepreneurs all over the world are looking for people to help them with their day-to-day tasks and special project.

What Tasks can a Virtual Assistant Do?

  1. Social Media Management
  2. Website Maintenance
  3. Editing/Proofreading
  4. Calendar Management
  5. Email Inbox Management
  6. Tech Support
  7. Admin Taks
  8. Market Research
  9. Video Editing and Uploading
  10. Project Management

BENEFITS OF HIRING A VA

  • more time to focus on the things that generate more money
  • more energy to do what they love to do
  • more time with family
  • spend their time and energy on growing their business instead of learning and implementing new tasks

As a new mom, I am very excited to face the new chapter in my life being a fulltime one. Taking good care of a child is easier for me since I have experienced it with my nephews and nieces. Setting goals now is important for me in order to see the future plans I will have for my family.

Sometimes we are busy doing everything in a daily basis that we forgot to see the big picture. You will have more accomplishments in the future if you take time now to set your goals. Here are some top goals moms need to know.

6 Goals Every Mom Needs To Know

1. Health Goals – Set health goals that include your time for your children. Make them play outside and not just looking in the computer the whole time. Also, make sure to plan for your own health goals too. Play ball games with your children, have a walk outside. Cook a healthy meal with your kids. Focus on the activities that you and your family do some healthy stuff. Change your weekly activities to make it more enjoyable. Make this the year the whole family improves their health.
2. Financial Goals – Set a family budget not only to track your family’s income and expenses but to set short and long-term financial goals. This is the most challenging one, stretching your family’s paycheck. If you’re a stay at home mom like me, remember that living off one income is hard enough for single people. I do have my own source of income aside from my husband’s but setting financial goals is still challenging. It is important to know where your money is going. You will be able to plan for the activities that costs money like vacations, outdoor activities, or other unexpected things that might happen.

3. Relationship Goals – Set relationship goals not only to your kids but also to your friends, spouse and family. Plan a girls’ nigh with your girl friends once a month. Plan a date night with your spouse. Nurture your relationship with your family members by visiting more often, or chatting on the phone. Time for you to strengthen your bond with the most important people in your life. Sometimes, we neglect our friends and other family members when you’re busy raising your kids.

4. Vacation Goals – Set vacation goals to explore possibilities. You may have already some destination that you want to visit this year or maybe planning to just stay at home. If possible, make a list of your family vacation possibilities and the amount of money it would take to get you to that goal. By setting goals, you’d be able to prioritize your vacation ideas and also help you re-adjust your budget. This will also gives you plenty of time to save up for your vacation and choose the right destination that’s in line with your financial goals for the year.

5. Plan to Join Groups – Take a hard look and set some new goals that include joining new groups. Plan to join groups doing outdoor activities like baseball, basketball, football, etc. Getting involved in new opportunities that can expand your child’s outlook is important. Sometimes, it is also great to think of your own interests or something new you would like to explore.

6. Make Stress Relief Plan – I think this is the most important thing to do especially for Moms. Having a “me time” is as important as spending time with your kids, spouse, family and friends. You need time to recharge and refresh. Being a mom, we all have our own interests and goals in life too.
